sorry for being m.i.a. but im creatively dying over here in vancouver. been working at value village as a production slave and utterly scaring my body for life to pay my bills that i've accumulated the past year. by the time i get back to good ol' M to the TL i should be even steven and broke as a joke. been racking my brain as to how i'll stretch my money for a piece of creative mind, where i'd love to squeeze in a weekend trip to new york or ottawa/toronto, splurge on a portable internetsss machine, and refresh my ego with some winter gear all for the new school year. my money is such a stress that i havent done anything particularly special since i've been down here. i've done 3 uniquely me things:

1. i spontaneously rode my cousin' girly beach cruiser around the hood out of boredom and me-time for an entire evening.

2. i walked robson for a day and watched transformers 2 like the loneliest wolf ever.

3. and i've eaten in total, 9 ube ice cream bubble teas to date.

once again, my predictions have fell short. the bruins happen to lose to the cardiac canes, the pens did edge out the caps (sadly), no surprise the red wings won their series, and my blackhawks looked good beating out vancouver. hm, 3 out of 4, thought it was worse than that. anyhow, here's my analysis of the current round.

EAST FINALS
Carolina Hurricanes vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: if ya didn't already know, i don't like sidney crosby. he's a frign robot. but he is proving to me that he can score buckets. i don't like the Pens, and i like eric staal, but i think the canes will fall short here against a supposed 'talented' penguins team. i still think its a conspiracy...

WEST FINALS
Detroit Red Wings vs. Chicago Blackhawks: damn straight i got the blackhawks back on this one. if they do take this series, it'll happen behind their power play. they rank first in the playoffs in powerplay successes, and detroit have been struggling in killing em... so i got blackhawks! if detroit wins, it's another cup for them. neither pitt nor the canes can take detroit.

so in conclusion... go BLACKHAWKS!

with the habs out, i figured my attention will be drawn to the basketball playoffs, which is always solid entertainment. but i think im turning into a genuine hockey fan as this year' playoffs is shaping to be hardcore. even though my record for the first round fell hella short, i hope round 2 will be more cooperative.

EAST
Boston Bruins (1) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (4): cardiac canes upset my predicted eastern conference champs New Jersey Devils, but im sure the Bruins got this one, having won the first game. i got em representing the east, now. they're bad-asssss.

Washington Capitals (2) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (3): superfight! Crosby vs. Ovechkin! the face of hockey and Canada's sweetheart vs. the high scoring Russian sensation. the hockey purist vs. the hockey fan. this is a crazy matchup. im a ovechkin fan, never really liked crosby much. and ovechkin said it best in a recent interview,

"[Crosby]'s a superstar... Me? I'm just like you guys."
Damn straight, he's the people's champ! and i love that he's all run n' gun! and he hits! my heart is with the Caps, but Pitt'll take this one exploiting the Caps green goalie. but hell, i'll be cheering hard for the Caps.

WEST
Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Anaheim Mighty Ducks (4): this one is a wildcard. with Anaheim upsetting the heavily favored Sharks, who knows what they'll do to the consistent Wings. i got the Wings in 7! but i'll be cheering for the Ducks.

Vancouver Canucks (2) vs. Chicago Blackhawks (3): oh yea baby! blackhawks all the way! they're the most exciting team to watch these playoffs. they're frign fast. though i don't know if they can win all the west, i know they can take the Canucks. they lost the first, but they'll tighten up, hopefully steal the next one and win both games at home. i think this'll go 6 games.

but in the end, when it really comes down to the wire... GO HABS GO!

boston bruins (1) vs. montreal canadiens (8): i got habs taking it in 7 games. obviously. cause they're coooooool.
washington capitals (2) vs. new york rangers (7): i like the caps, but theodore is horrible. new york will take this one.
new jersey devils (3) vs. carolina hurricanes (6): devils will take this one easy. jersey is frign solid on both ends of the rink.
pittsburgh penguins (4) vs. philadelphia flyers (5): i like the flyers and not much of a crosby fan, but pittsburgh got this cause the flyers' weak goalies.

in the east, once the habs knockoff the bruins (cause they will), the only other team that can take on the habs and the entire east is New Jersey. they're frign gooooood. so my heart is with the habs, but my money is on New Jersey reppin the east.

WEST:
san jose sharks (1) vs. anaheim ducks (8): i like the sharks, and i see them taking this but it'll take em 7 close-ass games.
detroit red wings (2) vs. columbus blue jackets (7): detroit got this but i like columbus. i think they're the only team that can outscore detroit.
vancouver canucks (3) vs. st. louis blues (6): canucks got this too. LUONGO. 'nuff said.

in the west, the teams out there are more tricky. the possible upsets are more significant cause, unlike the east, the difference between the seeds are much more greater. the east, they're all evenly strength teams. all the high seeds are expected to go far. my heart is with the blackhawks, but my money is on.... not sure. either detroit or vancouver. if the canucks can score consistently, then i got em over detroit. we shall see...

what a game. what-a-game. even tho the habs lost, they played real well.
carey price: though shaky at first, his play got stronger as each period passed. i got a little worried, thinking the series was over after the bruins got up 2. that first goal really got me shook, but that third period he did real well. thats a period he can build off of and use from now on. upcoming games should be fun to watch him.
boston: their forechecking was disgusting in the first period. i suppose their strategy is to press until they get a goal up, then back off and defend. but once the habs tied it up in the second, boston had to stick to defending and thats when the habs really were able to move the puck and pressure the bruins in their own end.
lucic: he's a beast. the hits he was giving out and how fast he skates for a big man is gross. he's as big as komisarek and laraque, but twice as fast as they are. you love to hate him, but i love to watch the kid. his game backs up his swagger. its hard.
laraque: your slow, you cant handle shit... but you sure can scare players.
gorges: yes, you lost the game. now buck up and play smarter.
plekanec and kostitsyn: homies you have to score.

i've watched the other hockey games, but none is as exciting as this series. and yea, im bias. we just need to steal one game in boston, then it'll be a 7 game series for sure.

anybody see the season finale last night? i wasnt all over this, but caught like 3-4 episodes over the past months. if you did follow, it was pretty clear from the beginning that Sunny Fong frign owned everybody each show. so no surprise he won. and im also glad jess made it so far. she's a bit annoying as a personality, and obviously heavy, but she was the most real as a person. and i hated all the other designers attitudes... frign haters. looking forward to next season, and will look for season 1...

finally watched The Watchmen. i liked it. nothin crazy, but good. even though i read the book, i think the editing/direction of the movie was a bit confusing. im sure those who havent read the book will be real confused. flashbacks werent that clear. but i very much liked how it stayed true to the book, even some scenes were shot similar to the panels of the book. some of the special effects looked cheesy, like the mars scenes. and the rape scene wasn't as uncomfortable as i thought it would be (like the book) so that was a FAIL! i was caught off guard with the boning scenes, that was uncomfortable. you see tits! BONUS! should've known really, cause there is blue penis...

so in a blue nutshell...
the GOOD: the story is obviously awesome, costumes hard, action scenes hot. (*niteowl was really well played, better than rorschach actually)
the BAD: slow pacing, confusing editing, and loooooooong.
the UNSURE: the soundtrack? really? keepin with the times is OK, but the song choices?

all this free time from school, i had plans to take a break from all that is chemistry, and immerse myself back into some art. and... i've forgotten all my art knowledge. which sucks cause i knew very little in the first place. but enjoyed the visual feast nonetheless. i checked out the majors, the beaux-arts musee (2-for-1!) and the mac (free!)...

van Dongen @ Beaux-Arts: im a fan of the Fauves and from what i learned, van Dongen adopted this movement into his own personality, sounding real rebellious and ish. one of the original Fauves, who happen to love him some prostitutes... this one looks better in person, cause it has a green tinge to it. visual feast! short and sweet too.

Tousignant @ MAC: a retrospective exhibit of montreal' world-reknowned abstract painter... was hella boring. i was more excited for this exhibit than the van Dongen, but i enjoyed this a lot less. conceptual heavy art is not my bag of tea. i like visually engaging stuff. color experimentation is good. clever is good. some of Tousignant work was, but most were just boring. single colored canvas/panels are so... gwah... im sure it was intense back in the day, but not so much today.

March Madness baby! the single best sporting event of basketball started yesterday! i likes it better than the nba playoffs. way more hype and exciting. calling it now, UNC all the way, with good games coming from Texas (vs. Duke!), VCU (*lost yesterday), Michigan, Washington, UConn, Wake Forest, PITT and Louisville. not a fan of Memphis, Duke, UCLA or Oklahoma this year.

anyhow, Mr. Obama is a big hoop head and put down his own bracket predictions. and he was on Leno recently. he is the greatest president... EVER!

march madness is just around the corner. but just over the weekend, Duke battled UNC one last time for the season to claim top seed in the ACC division and it was quite the game. nothing crazy, but fun to watch nonetheless.

not a fan of this year' Duke team. im convinced gerald hendersen is a future high flying grant hill, but he seems like an ass. it was tyler hansbrough' (and danny greene) last game in UNC, for he is a senior and graduating. NBA? i do not know. anyhoot, close game, but UNC came out on top again sealing the division and #1 rank for march madness. oh and jordan was in attendance. how special.

i did not see this coming at all and cant help but take this deeply personal. the habs have parted ways with coach guy carbonneau. he was like a hip father figure to me. cool and collected, real GQ and in charge behind the bench. i cant help but blame gm bob gainey, for trading cristobal huet, starting price, and stickin with kovalev. and its not the best time to do this either, end of season would have been much more classier BOB. it's a sad, sad day. farewell guy, you're still the man and will definitely be missed.

so... i've been dabblin in video games amidst my studies. can't help it. real leisure tho. im midseason in nba 2k9, haven't gone online cause i suck ass. my Clippers are below .500 hehehe and my baron davis is 4th in the league with 24.3ppg. but nba 2k9 is too hard.

still tops of my rotation and my quick fix for gamin, was and still is nhl 09. got a season going (superstar level) after swearing off online matches (damn glitchers!). was tough early on, but my habs so far are 40-11-0-3, tops of the east and hells yea i runs up the score. wins came easier after i've made some bob gainey moves...

damn straight! i traded kovalev for mtl's own vinny lecavalier. had to give up sergei kostitsyn too. funny note: sergei eventually became captain of tampa bay and kovalev got set back to 3rd line. other trades i've made are based on gettin back good ex-hab players. lecavalier was the only make-a-wish foundation trade...

i traded: robert lang (RIP), steve begin, sergei kostitsyn, francis bouillon, kyle chipchura, mathieu dandenault, a 1st round draft pick, alexei kovalev, and max pacioretty.

all for: sheldon souray, mark streit, mathieu schneider, doug janik (keepin it real) and vincent lecavalier.

and vinny is killing it with 42 goals so far. he wings it with my 2nd line, my 'Flying Frenchmen Line' of Lapierre, Lecavalier and Latendresse. but top line is my baby, Saku Koivu, Chris Higgins and hoyea, Tomas Plekanec! and Tomas is carving teams up with 39 goals so far. *sigh...

hockey, the nba, world cup soccer are all hype... but there's nothing like college basketball. the two biggest college basketball schools in the world faced off earlier this week and was a great prelude to the upcoming month, as all the schools begin to claw their way into March Madness next month. the two aforementioned teams were Duke and North Carolina, tops of the ACC division. i've been a fan of Duke, but i got UNC's back this year... cause of this guy: tyler hansbrough aka the anomaly (my own aka).

the most awkward succesful baller i've ever seen...

i just dont get it. so much hype around this guy, and he has the stats to back it up, but he has the unsmoothest game... EVER. it's borderline ugly. it'd be straight up ugly but his attempts get him his points. but he has won me over. he plays hard, thats all u can ask for. i'm calling it now, UNC will take it this year.

if you didn't already know, the nhl all-stars game was held here in mtl over the weekend. if i were to sum up the weekend, i'd say it was 'enjoyable'. nothing super fantastic, or mad crazy, but good ol' fashion enjoyable. the highlight was our own alexi kovalev earning the game's mvp. all i wish for, is that he takes all this good stuff, and uses it for the habs. playoffs are in the horizon, i'm more excited for that. ko-vy! ko-vy! ko-vy!

my first 'home alone' mishap happened yesterday. i had to laugh at the cliche, but yea it involved fire. so what, i thought lighting candles would be a nice addition to the atmosphere of an empty house. but my first mistake was underestimating the power of the flame. notice the candle within the glass jar, well i had no way to light it with my pocket lighter. so looking around, i found a paper envelope with those plastic windows nearby to light up and extend to the candle' wick. and shit happens, the envelope paper burned in control, but the plastic window kinda blew up. i let go, the envelope fell to the carpet, and i stomped the shit. lesson learned. now the carpet is forever scarred (notice the smudge on the carpet directly left of the candles).

i'm an idiot. and gay apparently cause it was over frign candles.

new years i counted down with my cuz again and some fam. nothing crazy. stuffed myself and dozed away.

my pops flew out west to vancity on dec. 25th (yea, xmas day) and from there will later on fly out to the philippines. he'll be in the phils til mid-april, which means i'll be home alone for about 4 months and responsible (and control) of the groceries. this inspires my new year's resolution, which is to eat healthier and 'try' to go vegetarian. you know what that means...

another christmas come and gone. this year was tough, spent it alone. my pops flew out west and spent it with my sis and all my cousins over in vancity. i spent it with my cousin and his wife's fam. kinda sad, but im old and xmas is losing its magic anyhow. as for loot, i did some pretty good 'receiving'. hilights include a wolf themed calendar from kevlo and some new additions to my ps3 library. merry frign christmas!

i honestly would not have believed it if i havent had witnessed it myself. just about an hour ago, manny pacquiao defeated one of the most celebrated boxers in history in oscar "the golden boy" de la hoya. i'm callin it right now, pacquiao will be on the cover of the next 'Fight Night' game.

watched the fight here at home with my dad's crew of uncles. there is no other place and people i rather be with to watch a manny pacquiao fight. i feed off the pride and joy of these old filipino men who can relate to their accomplished countryman on a deeper level than i ever can. this win, is like their own brother landing on the moon.

oscar de la hoya is the MAIN reason i followed boxing. trinidad, vargas, gatti, hopkins, mosley, mayorga, mayweather; i was on those fights. he was the face of boxing to me. i was too young for tyson and not even born for ali. i never would have dreamt of a filipino being a boxer. so when pacquiao showed up, it was hard to believe, and his success just blew my mind. and so to expect a fight between these two, both i admire greatly, is indescribable.

nervous and anxious, the fight began finally. first two rounds were the 'safe' rounds, both fighters feeling out the other. these two rounds is where pacquiao udnerstood that he was FASTER than de la hoya, connecting with straight lefts and a couple of right hooks. third round he loosened up, stringing his punches more and throwing combos. it was over. after each round, de la hoya's face was flushed with frustration and defeat, with his left eye swelling. last couple of rounds, de la hoya retreating into the ropes facing flurry after flurry, called it quits after the eighth round. victory!

its sad that these boxing matches are the only times that evoke filipino pride within myself, and the following will put into perspective: this is sooo huge for the philippines and all filipinos, that if any (god-forbid) scandal is discovered behind pacquiao's success, the philippine islands will SINK into the Pacific ocean in shame. i hope to god no such drama occurs.

did my part in the voting for the 2009 nhl all-stars which is extra special this year because it's being held here in montreal. even extra bonus is the fact that 6 canadiens are nominated for the eastern conference team. i voted for all of em. for the west, i voted for paul kariya, ales hemsky, jarome iginla, dion phaneuf, sheldon souray, and roberto luongo. but the funny thing is the voting totals. you can vote as many times as you want, but its disgustingly overkill at this point. check out the official totals. hehehe

nov. 4th 2008: that morning i had a math test which i could have done better with more time. then sat through a class of presentations done by immigrants struggling with their english. headed home and taught myself quantum mechanics from scratch (skipped those lectures) for a quiz the next morning. finished up around 10ish and settled into bed and watched the results on none other than CNN. appreciated McCain's defeat speech, particularly his sympathy for Obama's late grandmother. almost fell asleep waiting for Mr. Obama's victory speech, but when it happened, it Happened.

i was hoping for a romantic speech, the powerful kind found at the climax of dramatic movies, that you can feel in your body and in your eyes. i pictured him being choked up, taking long pauses as the crowd cheered relentlessly, drowning him out. not quite mine, but he certainly owned the moment. aside from his moving words of hope, it was the entire image of the event that got to me: a single man commanding the attention of a sea of people. it was prophetic, historic, symbolic, and plenty of other words of grandeur. it was more than the election of a President, it was a celebration. not exactly of victory, but something much greater.

i was at home, in bed, forgetting my formulas.

you know what that chant means... hockey season bitches! les canadiens de montréal are heavy favorites this year, with analysts predicting they'll take over the east and represent in the finals. besides that, it's a special year. it's the Habs 100th birthday, their centennial year, and have been granted to host the nhl all-star game and the next hockey draft. during the year, the habs will rock retro jerseys, adding extra flare to special games. so mtl will have pure hockey fever this winter season.

besides supporting le blue-blanc-et-rouge, i will also be cheering for another canadian team who also have an anniversary this year, the edmonton oilers, celebrating their 30th birthday. in their rotation, they have the hottest jerseys this year, rockin retro sweaters with fly-ass gretzky-era orange accents.
